Ballot Initiative Mandating Ohio Employers to Provide Sick Pay Dropped
September 9th, 2008By Aaron Harrison
The ballot initiative scheduled to be on the November ballot that would have required Ohio employers to provide seven paid sick days to their employees annually was voluntarily removed by the Ohioans for Healthy Families organization last week.
The withdrawal of the measure was offered as a compromise after Governor Ted Strickland withdrew his support for the initiative in the interest of avoiding the anticipated tension that would have resulted from the measure's placement on the November ballot.
The organization intends to support similar federal legislation proposed by Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown.
